THE first cup games of the new season were played this week with the CWFL Dee 106 League Cup taking centre stage.

This year the cup is for Premier Division teams only and will be played on a group basis.

The top two teams from each group will go on to contest for a place in the final at the Swansway Stadium in May next year.

In Group A Ellesmere Port, Sutton Athletic and MBNA all recorded wins.

Graham Davidson, Chris Georgeson, Mason Cartwright and Ian Johnson netted for Ellesmere Port, beating AFC ESSAR 4-2.

Connor Doyle and Paul Butler were Sutton goal scorers as they edged past Helsby FC 2-1.

Wes Wright was the Helsby scorer as they make a welcome return to the CWFL.

MBNA had Gareth Williams (2), Paul Jones, Andre Clarke, Lewis Mitchell and Sam Byrne to thank for their goals in an impressive 6-3 win over Higher Bebington Kelma who replied through Ben Keirman (2) and Brian Leyfield.

In Group B Shaftesbury Youth continued in their fine run of form, beating Ellesmere Port Town A 7-3.

Franklyn's beat Newton Athletic 3-2.

The CWFL Olympic Trophies Division One is looking like a tough league this season with all the top five teams taking maximum points from their games.

Leaders Clubbies put in the performance of the day by beating the hapless Chester Argyle 11-0 with goals from Jake Johnson (4), Mikey Edwards (3), Jordan Turner, Tommy Booth, Ash Reid and Harley Dutton.

Second-placed Elton Athletic earned a hard-fought 2-1 win over Cestrian Alex.

Third-placed Blacon Youth Reserves impressed as they dispatched FC UBER 7-1.

St Saviours eased past Helsby Reserves 8-0.

Upton JFC hit Chester Nomads III for six without reply.

Harry Hornsby was sole scorer for Hoole Rangers as they went down 3-1 at home to Princes Villa who had Steve Morgan, Charlie Bell and Charlie Jones on target for them.

Goals from Josh Forster (2), Chris Robertson and Chris Drew keep Ellesmere Port FC Reserves aloft of the CWFL Link Up Division Two as they beat Rockville 4-2, Danny Allen scoring both for the Wallasey based outfit.

Chris Larsen had a dream debut for Upton Bears Paw, hitting a hat-trick, in their 4-0 win over Crossway.

Jamie Hughes added the fourth goal with a converted penalty.

FC Duddon put in a fine performance as the beat Rossmore Rangers by the odd goal in five thanks to a Lewis Neal brace and Andy Ward. Aaron Stockton and James Curtis were Rangers scorers.

Malpas seem to be adapting to life in the CWFL as they move into third place after an impressive 7-3 away win over Orange Athletic.

Saturday was also the start of the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets competition with one game taking place in Division One.

Neston Nomads entertained newly-promoted Shotton Steel, winning 2-0 thanks to a Graeme Carvell brace.

The CWFL Monday Night and Friday Night 11s Flexi Divisions kick off in week commencing September 25.

This year CWFL will be starting a CWFL Women’s Flexi Division on Friday Nights.

It offers playing time to squad members in a league and cup setting. Spaces still remain for teams to apply.
