OLD Parkonians first XI made the short journey to Victoria Park to take on local rivals Tranmere Vics in their latest league game in Cheshire Cricket League Division 4.

Home captain Ben England won the toss and invited the Parkonians team to bat.

The visitors struggled due to a combination of a somewhat lively pitch, some rash shots and good Vics bowling and fielding.

Main contributions on the batting front for Old Parks were Ben Rees (21), David Nedugoden (19) and skipper Chris Beckett (18) culminating in a final total of just 90. For Vics the star bowlers were Tejpal Singh (11-3-20-5) and young Rhys Brown (7-0-16-2).

There was a strong suspicion during the tea interval that Vics might struggle to overhaul the Parks’ total and this proved to be the case as they collapsed to a total of just 52.

The visitors used just two bowlers who both excelled.

Lewis Elwood (12.2-4-23-5) and Ben Rees (13-5-25-5) with David Nedugoden taking three excellent catches in the gully area. This latest victory ensures that Old Parks stay top of the table with Trafford Metrovics the visitors to Holm Lane this coming Saturday.

Match summary: Old Parkonians 90 (29.5 overs), Tranmere Vics 52 (25.2 overs) At Holm Lane the Old Parks also entertained the Vics and claimed a 25-point victory.

The home side winning the toss made 211-3 declared (40 overs). Star batting came from Saad Saeed (69no), Mark Rayner (52), Paul Singer (33) and Peter Fearon (32).

In reply Vics could only muster 44 all out with fantastic Parks bowling from teenager Nathan Bradshaw (8-0-29-5) and Adam Walkling (8-3-14-3) .

This pushes up the seconds towards the promotion placings in Cheshire Cricket League Division C West.
