A WIRRAL disabled basketball team has qualified for the special needs Olympics in Sheffield and need Globe readers help to get them there.

Hoylake Wildcats was formed by support worker Jon Spindler five years ago after he noticed there was little to no sporting activities available for Wirral's disabled people during the day. The group has grown from strength to strength.

It is the only special needs basketball team representing the North West in the competition, taking place in August, and hopes our readers can help with sponsorship.

A spokeswoman for the group told the Globe: "Last year for the first time ever Jon entered the team into the Manchester Special Needs Olympics, on a two day event, this amazing team came fourth we were all so proud.

"Jon is a self driven, motivated carer who is now a qualified dedicated couch.

"He lead his team to Victory and since then the team have been having extra sessions as they have been accepted into the Sheffield Special Olympics in August.

"This amazing team needs supporting by the people of Merseyside as they are the only team representing this part of the country.

"Please support this amazing team".

To sponsor them, visit the group's just giving page on facebook.com/hoylake.wildcats or justgiving.com/crowdfunding/karen-lee
