OLD Parkonians 1st XI began their 2017 campaign with a solid away victory at Winsford.

Opting to bat, the visitors looked in trouble early on when the wickets of Tim Hitchell (13) and Rees (7) fell quickly leaving the score at 26-2.

Saeed (15) and Rayner (13) recovered well but both fell just before drinks leaving the total at 55-4.

A solid partnership followed between Nedugodan and Dan Berkson, with the former striking several big blows before being controversially adjudged LBW for 33.

Berkson played a patient and well-timed innings however, aptly supported by Nisar (35), finishing on 55 from 74 balls in a total of 188-7.

The Old Parkonians bowling unit provided the hosts with plenty of problems early on and after Rees removed Hughes for a duck and Berkson accounted for Bates (29), Winsford stalled.

Mike Dickenson played well for a fine 49, bringing the score to 74-2 before being out LBW to Beckett.

Wickets then began to tumble regularly and with the support of Nisar (1-15), Beckett claimed his first 5-for of the season accounting for Denuawara and Berry caught, then Edmondson and Holtom out bowled.

Berkson supported well, capping off a fine day with 3-22.

Scores:

Old Parkonians 188-7 (45 overs).
