BIRKENHEAD boxer Sean Masher Dodd has vowed to "Crush Cardle" ahead of his British lightweight title bid at Liverpool's Echo Arena next month.

The bout with Scott Cardle was officially sanctioned by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC) at the beginning of the month and 31-year-old Dodd has said: "I've got a few tricks up my sleeve for Cardle."

Dodd showed broad shoulders last month when only given three days’ notice to fight super featherweight champion Gary Buckland and dethrone the Welshman as well as sending him into retirement from the sport.

It was a dream come true from the family man who only turned professional at the age of 27.

Wirral Globe:

MOMENT OF TRUTH: Trainer Danny Kelly embraces 'Masher' Dodd after the Buckland points victory - live on Sky Sports.

He will be hoping for a Cinderella Man story which draws parallels with former WBO featherweight Steve Robinson who rested the title in a bout against John Davison with just two days' notice back in April 1993.

Robinson then grew in confidence and went on to record victories over distinguished former world champions including Colin McMillan, Paul Hodkinson and Duke McKenzie in title defences at the National Ice Rink, in Cardiff.

Dodd has his sight set on Cardle who turned 26 years at the end of September and is unbeaten in 18 contests. He makes the first defence of the British title against the Birkenhead prospect - after having won the vacant British belt by outpointing Craig Evans in May 2015.

Dodd will be aiming to keep Cardle's reign at 9 stone 9 lbs/135 lbs short - less than six months - and Dodd’s trainer Sean Trodden has said that this bout is a totally different prospect to the Buckland fight.

NEXT OPPONENT: Scott Cardle shows off his Lonsdale belt for the lightweight division.

Sean Trodden, from the Birkenhead Venture Boxing Club, said: "Cardle is a slick and clever boxer who can move around well.

"But Sean is a clever and intelligent boxer who can adapt his style during the fight and out think and out work his opponents to get the win."

Dodd turned professional two weeks before Cardle but has only boxed 11 contests while the champion - from Lytham St Annes - has had 18 outings and accrued a 28 per cent stoppage or knockout record as well as boxing 40 more rounds than Masher Dodd.

Both boxers are orthodox, stand at 5ft 7ich with a similar reach - Dodd's record is 10 wins with one loss - with an 18 per cent stoppage or knockout win ratio.

Last month during the press conference a serious looking Dodd vowed: "Buckland’s getting buckled" and this month the Birkenhead dad of three has already stated that: "Cardle is getting crushed.

"I'm feeling so much stronger now.

"I took a week off after the Buckland fight to let the bruising go down but was soon back in the Birkenhead Venture Boxing Club gym to prepare for this title fight - I'm bringing that Lonsdale belt home to Wirral for all my loyal fans as a thank you - their support has been incredible."

Masher's trainer Danny Kelly, added: "Cardle is as awkward as they come."

The British lightweight match-up will be held at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on Saturday, November 7.
