THE local Regattas programme concluded on a successful note with the Hoylake Sailing Club annual event off Meols on Saturday.

It was sunshine sailing for the crews and the breeeze gradually picked up to make for some competitive racing.

Peter Price in Harrier dominated in the Falcons and two wins earned him the Tom Grenfell Memorial Trophy which is a silver model of a Falcon yacht.

John Burthem in Hawk was runner-up with a third and a second place.

Two second places in Hirondelle earned helm Gemima Riley the overall victory in the Hilbre Class by just one point from Tim Riley in Highlight with Peter Bramley another point back in third.

John Dowler in Orion and Alister Schlater in Mars each won once in the West Kirby Stars but the second race resulted decided the overall outcome in favour of the latter.

The home based Operas had the Regatta Challenge Cup at stake and Geoffrey Watt put his name on it for the first time with a first and a second place.

Runner-up was Commodore Gavin Melling in La Tosca with Steve Stratton third in Fidelio.
