TRANMERE Rovers' manager Micky Adams hopes his squad will put the disappointment of a weekend defeat behind them when they face Newport County in League Two action tonight.

The match, at Rodney Parade, comes three days after Rovers were beaten 2-0 by Carlisle United at Prenton Park.

It will be the second time Rovers have met County since the club was reformed in 1989. Earlier this season they drew 0-0 at Prenton Park.

Rovers go into the game at 21st place on the league table with 30 points from 28 games. On the road this season they have won won three, drawn three and lost seven.

Newport are currently sixth in the division with 46 points from 29 fixtures. At home they have won eight, drawn four and lost two.

Adams will be without defender Michael Ihiekwe tonight. The centre back missed the last two matches with an ankle problem and joins Marcus Holness and Matt Hill in the treatment room.

Cole Stockton picked up a knock after coming on as a substitute against Carlisle United and is a doubt, but Iain Hume came through his second Rovers debut unscathed.

Exiles caretaker boss Jimmy Dack is without suspended defender Kevin Feely after he was shown a red card in the 2-0 defeat at AFC Wimbledon at the weekend.

However, Miles Storey, Lee Minshull and Regan Poole are all pushing for a starting role.

After Saturday's match, Adams said his players must pick themselves up and move on. In an interview on the club's website, he added: "We're disappointed we've lost.

"Small margins decide games and I wouldn't say it's one of our worst performances this season at all. We just didn't get the breaks.

"The difference between the sides was the fact that they overhit things and turned our back four and we underhit things.

"It's a difficult pitch, really lively and they certainly didn't outpass us at any time.

"We talked at half time about their game plan being to turn us and that we need to make sure our starting positions are right and we didn't heed the warning.

"We'll look at the goals and analyse them but we've got to move on quickly because we've got a big game on Tuesday.

"We've been on a fantastic run, it has come to an end and we've got to pick ourselves up, move on and learn the lessons.

"We've shown we can win away and Newport will be wounded after their defeat today. We've got to go down there in a positive frame of mind thinking we can win the game."
