WIRRAL sailors just missed out on top honours as West Kirby Sailing Club staged the Albacore and Finn Class Northern Area Championships in light and variable winds conditions at the weekend.
The Albacore field was twenty four-strong but Judy Armstrong from Scaling Dam Sailing Club produced outstanding form to win four of the five races and take the title.
Mal Jones from West Kirby was runner-up and clubmate Mike Hartley took third overall.
There were just six starters in the Finn event which was claimed by Peter Ashworth from West Lancashire Yacht Club.
He had two points to spare over runner Jean-Louis Simmons from West Kirby.
Results: Albacores: 1. Slightly Ratty (Judy Amstrong, Scaling Dam SC) 4pts; 2. Helious (M.Jones, West Kirby SC) 10; 3. Caster & Pollex (M.Hartley, West Kirby SC) 14.
Finns:- 1. No.59 (P.Ashworth, West Lancashire YC) 5pts; 2. Frieda (J.L.Simmons, West Kirby SC) 7; 3. No.78 (Rob Temple) Treaddhur Bay SC) 10.
