CLOSE on 100 trophies were handed out at West Kirby Sailing Club's annual prizegiving ceremony at the weekend after another successful season on the Dee Estuary and the Marine Lake.

The Hilbre Hirondelle owned by Chris and Tim Riley and sailed mostly by Gemima Riley was a prolific winner in the Hilbre Class with half-a-dozen awards.

There were four series wins in the Slow Handicap for Peter Williams in Kirsan who also took four series prizes in the Illusions.

Three series wins were posted by the Falcon Isador (Martin Whittingham-Jones), the Albacore Triggers Brush (Mike Hartley), the GP14 Black to the Future (Rob Thompson), the Firefly Shocker (Marion Armstrong) and the Finn Dark Diggler (Dave Potter) in the Fast Handicap.

Other series winners included: Stars: Cygnus (D Smith and D Robotham); Capella (N Ledingham); Mercury (J Begley); Vega (R and M Booth).

Albacores: Sensational (J and N Carlin); Not A Lark (A and T Schlater).

Cadets: Speedbird II (A Colquitt); She’s Electric (O Owen).

GP14: Misdemeanor (S Stratton).

Fireflies: Defiant (H Hughes).

Laser Radial: 100347 (A Sanden); Deecisive (S Jardine).

Solos: Solstice (R M Hartley).

At Hoylake. where the prizegiving took place recently, Silvana (your correspondent Andrew Stratton) and Fidelio (Stephen Stratton) in the Opera Class each collected three series awards. Other series winners include Geoffrey Watt in Aida and Gavin Melling in La Tosca.

The Handicap Dinghy series went to Gavin Melling in an Enterprise Gavnik.

Liverpool Yacht Club/Tranmere Sailing Club staged River Mersey races at the weekend.

Bada Bing (Andy Farrall and Andy Napper) claimed IRC Class One from five rivals. Class Two which was five strong went on corrected times to Skukusa (Stuart Lofthouse).

In the Venture Class One Legless (David Hughes)) headed two other rivals. Meta II (Dave Forshaw) sailed over in Class Two.
