SAILING: Brass Monkey series begins on River Mersey

LIVERPOOL Yacht Club/Tranmere Sailing Club began their Brass Monkey series on the River Mersey in crisp, cold conditions at the weekend.

There was a 16-strong turn out on Sunday and the yachts in the main were able to take advantage of the very high tide to complete a lengthy course.

John Oliver in Eazi Tiger took Class A ahead of Bada Bing owned by Andy Napper and Alec Farrell.

Class Two went to the Adele McKenna owned Di- Rich with Legless (David Hughes) the runner-up.

There were just three starters for the first race in the Venture Series. Bateleur headed the trio on corrected times.

The next Mersey racing is scheduled for January 27, at 9am.

Results:

Brass Monkey Series Class One: 1. Eazi Tiger (J Oliver); 2. Bada Bing (A Napper & A Farrell); 3. Another Nods (R Booth).

Class Two: 1. Di Rich (A McKenna); 2. Legless (D Hughes); 3. Skukusa (S Lofthouse).

Venture Class One: 1. Bateleur ( - ); 2. Artful Dodger (P Doyle & P Brereton). Class Two: no starters.
