RONNIE Moore's first game back in charge at Tranmere Rovers ended with a dramatic 1-1 draw against Notts County at Prenton Park last night.

Hopes of an early lead were dashed when Damien Stewart scored the visitors' goal five minutes into the game.

Rovers, however, applied the pressure throughout the second half and captain John Welsh headed in the equaliser in injury time.

Currently 20th on the League One table with 35 points, Rovers have not won a game since December 30. Rovers' veteran Ronnie, who was appointed caretaker manager on Sunday, has 12 games left this season to reverse the alarming slide and pick up vital points.

He was cheered by the crowd as he emerged from the tunnel last night. Reflecting on the match he said: "I thought the lads were brilliant.

"It was a sloppy start with the back pass and then Ash lost his man in the box and you think 'just what you want'

"But we had that bit of belief in the second half where we got at them, got crosses in the box.

"The spirit, the determination and commitment was brilliant. It was nice for everybody when the goal went in.

"The crowd have been brilliant. I've said to the lads 'they've not shouted my name just because I'm here, they've shouted my name because of what you did.

"'You ran, you chased, you've hurried, you've got back and defended things and that's why they're applauding'.

"I said to them, remember how it felt when the ball went into the net, remember that for Saturday."

"Everyone can see we're short. If we keep working like that maybe we can find somebody to put the ball in the back of the net.

"We just have to tweak here, there and everywhere. There's a lot of crosses into the box, not enough shots and not enough goals."

Rovers are at home again on Saturday against Leyton Orient. Kick off is at 3pm.
