TRANMERE Rovers' boss Micky Mellon will use Saturday's game against Hartlepool United as the 'perfect opportunity' to prepare for the following weekend's play-off at Prenton Park.

His side have guaranteed second position and home advantage in the play-off semi-final and will be looking to build on six consecutive victories on Saturday (kick-off 12.30pm).

Looking forward to the game during a press conference at the club's Solar Campus training ground in Leasowe this afternoon, Mellon told the Globe: "It's another opportunity to get together and prepare for the play-off game.

"So we'll look forward to it and prepare properly.

"It's a great time of the season. We're all very excited and at the end of a long league season you want to be involved in the competition at the end.

"We're pleased about that and will try to get the result that's needed."

Mellon's game plan for Saturday's game is simple.

He said: "Everybody who goes out on the pitch on Saturday will be expected to play well and win. We'll go into the game expecting to represent the club and fans in the right way.

“Our mentality is about getting my players through a game of football. We'll try to do the best we can to get it right.

"I'll then want everybody as best prepared as possible on Monday for a good week’s training ahead of a very important game on the Saturday.

"Hopefully we will get everybody as prepared as we can for the play-off game.

"Now it's about this group of players ready for a play-off game at home and that's what I'm trying to achieve."
