TRANMERE Rovers return to National League this weekend for manager Micky Mellon believes will be a 'massive' game against Aldershot Town.

Saturday's game at the EBB stadium comes a week after Goals from Connor Jennings, James Norwood and Liam Ridehalgh took the Superwhites through to the first round of the Emirates FA Cup - against Peterborough United on November 4 - following a 3-1 win away against FC Halifax Town.

Rovers, currently 15th on the National League table, have 20 points from their 15 league matches.

Eighth-on-the-table Aldershot have 23 points from their 15 matches.

Assessing this weekend's opponents during a press conference this afternoon at Rovers' Solar Campus training ground in Leasowe, Mellon said: "We're really looking forward to Aldershot.

"It's a massive game for us and we’re really looking forward to it."

Nine points are at stake from Rovers' next three games, but as far as Mellon is concerned it's a case of taking each game at a time.

He said: "It's Saturday and it's three points; it's how we prepare for it now, get down to Aldershot and give ourselves the best chance of winning and the personnel that we pick.

"Then we can only guess at the performance we’re going to get there.

"When that game finishes we get recovered and move onto the next one.

"We look at it game by game and try to find out reasons why the things that normally give us good results haven't happened and try and work consistently on that.

"The thing about Tranmere is that people say we've got to play well to win, and I like that expectation, because it drives us on and makes sure we deliver on that, which is a good way of us making sure we are successful."

Assessing his squad’s performance as the season continues, Mellon said: "At their best, they are very very capable of beating anyone comfortably in this league.

"But we need to keep taking chances and looking to put balls in the back of the net and are working very hard to keep doing that.

"We are always looking to try to strengthen the group and are always looking at scouting and recruitment.

"If we get the players that we currently trying to get in, it will be helpful to the group.

"I think the league is tight, never known it like this. It's very inconsistent.

"We have to try to keep winning games."
