TRANMERE Rovers will play Premier League side Liverpool FC in a pre-season friendly at Prenton Park next month.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is expected to field a strong line-up for the fixture on Wednesday, July 12, which kicks off at 7.45pm.

It will be the second summer in a row that Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp has brought a strong side to Birkenhead.

That game saw Andy Cook and Connor Jennings make their first appearances in Rovers shirts.

This summer, Micky Mellon has signed former Reds winger Jack Dunn and midfielder Ollie Norburn, while Liverpool have recruited Chelsea striker and Under-20 World Cup winner Dominic Solanke.

Like last year's game, home fans will be located in the Cowshed Stand, with Liverpool fans situated in the North Star Environmental Kop Stand.

Micky Mellon's side will play home friendlies against Bury and Fleetwood Town as part of the preparations for the 2017/18 season.

They will host Fleetwood Town on Tuesday, July 25 kick-off from 7.30pm, while Bury come to Prenton Park three days later on Friday, July 28.

The team will also travel to Cammell Laird on Saturday, July 15 while Andy Parkinson's Under-18 side will travel to play Heswall on Saturday, July 8.

The 2017/18 National League season starts on Saturday, August 5, and players are scheduled to return for training at the end of June.

Further friendlies and ticket details for the above fixtures will be announced in due course.

The fixture list for the Vanarama National League 2017/18 season will be released on Wednesday, July 5.
