TRANMERE Rovers have signed midfielder James Wallace until the end of next season.

He returned to Prenton Park on loan from Sheffield United at the end of November, having previously been at the club between 2012 and 2014, and helped the team to victories over Gateshead, Wrexham and Macclesfield Town.

He left the Bramall Lane outfit earlier this week.

The midfielder started his career with Premier League outfit Everton, progressing through the Academy ranks at Goodison Park and making a first team appearance against Sigma Olomouc in the UEFA Europa League.

Whilst with The Toffees, Wallace had loan stints away with Bury, Stockport County, Shrewsbury Town and Tranmere Rovers, turning the latter into a permanent move following a successful spell.

After two seasons at Prenton Park, making 60 appearances for the club, he joined Sheffield United and had a loan period with Shrewsbury Town under Micky Mellon last season.

The manager is a big admirer of the midfielder and is delighted to have brought him to the Club on a permanent basis.

He said: "I'm delighted to have James with us here because he is a top footballer who has great ability.

"He has great composure on the ball and helps give us control of games from the midfield.

"We are continually trying to improve and I believe that adding James' quality to our squad will certainly do that."
