Tranmere Rovers are holding open trials for the men’s futsal team.

After announcing the club’s entry into the FA National Futsal League for 2016-17 and the appointment of UEFA A Futsal coach Damon Shaw, the club is now urging players to step forward and trial to represent Tranmere Rovers in the new campaign that starts on September 11.

The trials will be held on July 10 and July 17 at the Futsal Hub from 2pm to 4pm.

Tranmere Rovers Futsal have already secured the services of Ed Bryers, 30, an experienced futsal player from Birkenhead who has played for Tranmere Victoria, Liverpool and Manchester.

Ed said: “I have taken a step-down from Super League to play here, but that is because I believe in the exciting vision that has been created here and want to be part of the success story that I am sure it is going to become."

Incoming manager Damon Shaw said: “With Ed we’ve got an experienced player, so I’m happy with the start we’ve made in recruitment.

"Now we need to find at least 11 more players before the season starts in September.

“I’m not looking for a particular profile of player, but for players who will be willing to learn, work together for the team and contribute something.”

If successful, players will be invited to continue training in pre-season and the squad will be finalised throughout August and September.

There is no cost to playing for Tranmere Rovers FC Futsal.

Playing kit will be provided and travel to away matches will be organised by the club. Training will be twice weekly at the Futsal Hub and matches will be played on Sundays.

“I’m urging everybody to come and give it a go. It’s a chance to be part of a fantastic project backed fully by the club and a chance to play all over the country in a national competition, travel abroad and perhaps one day represent England,” added Shaw.

Trials are open to players aged 15-plus and are free to attend.

Contact dawnt@tranmererovers.co.uk for more information, or show up on July 10 and 17. Shaw will be in attendance on July 17.

If you have just left school aged 16-to-18 and are interested in studying a BTEC in Ssport, you could also be offered a full time scholarship.
