TRANMERE Rovers defender Michael Ihiekwe has signed a new one-year contract with the club.
The 23-year-old arrived at Prenton Park during the summer of 2014 from Wolverhampton Wanderers and has so far made 82 appearances in a Rovers shirt, scoring three goals.
After breaking back into the side last December, Ihiekwe forged a strong partnership with Steve McNulty at the heart of the Tranmere defence, helping to keep 10 clean sheets in the final 20 matches of the season.
Manager Gary Brabin said: "I am really pleased that Michael will be staying at the Club for another season.
"He is still only 23 and has a lot of potential.
"We worked hard with him last season and I think we saw plenty of improvement in his game. I believe there is still more to come from him too.
"Michael played an important part in our strong performance during the second half of the season and I’m looking forward to working with him for another year."
