Tranmere host local rivals Wrexham on Saturday afternoon as they bid to maintain their play-off position with three leagues matches remaining.

The Dragons' visit is expected to generate the largest crowd of the season at Prenton Park.

Manager Gary Brabin said the focus is entirely on getting three points from the game to reinforce their slender hold on the play-off places.

He said: "The next game is always the biggest game and we will be throwing all our energy into that.

"We have to take care of our own business and that's by taking the next game and looking to perform as well as we know we're capable of.

"And if we do that we're always confident that we'll get three points."

With two of the three remaining league fixtures to be played at Prenton Park, the manager says the home support can do their bit in helping the players on the pitch.

Boss Gary Brabin: Focussed on adding vital points to Rovers' tally

He added: "This is a crucial time now and we all want the same thing.

"Me as a manager, my staff, the players, the supporters, we all want the same thing.

"When the fans get behind us, you do get that bit of extra energy, enthusiasm and will to win.

"When you have the support that we have backing you, it does push you that little bit further."

A win on Tuesday night for promotion-chasing Braintree put them on equal points with Tranmere in the battle for play-off places.

The Iron's grabbed a late winner as Braintree earned an unlikely victory against promotion rivals Grimbsy Town.

Rovers are now sandwiched between the two on 72 points - the same tally as Braintree - with the Wirral side holding onto the last play-off spot thanks to superior goal difference.

Grimsby are currently one place above Tranmere with a haul of 76 points and have a game in hand.

After Wrexham (8th place) this Saturday, Rovers travel to Eastleigh (7th place) next week before the final crucial encounter against Grimsby (4th place) at Prenton Park on Saturday, March 30.

Chairman Mark Palios, above, said: "It's an exciting, tense and challenging time of the season and the hard work is far from finished.

“We need the Wirral public behind us.

"We've had fantastic support at home and across the country this season and we're asking for the fans to give us one last push.

"It’s a cliché but the fans really can be the twelfth man and make a difference on the pitch."

Winger Adam Mekki said: "It's coming down to these last three games and we're all really excited and can't wait to get back out on the pitch.

"It's in our hands - it's all about us going out there, performing and getting the three points."
