TRANMERE manager Gary Brabin was frustrated by his team's performance after falling to a 2-1 defeat at home against Welling United.

Struggling Welling came from behind to secure all three points on a day when tributes were paid to Rovers former manager Johnny King, who died earlier this week.

The club legend’s life was celebrated with a minute of applause before kick off.

Tranmere were unchanged from the team which beat Kidderminster Harriers 2-0 on Bank Holiday Monday.

Rovers took the lead on 18 minutes when Taylor-Fletcher dinked a pass to Lee Vaughan who volleyed home.

Welling got themselves back in the game almost immediately as a free-kick wasn't cleared and Ian Gayle's shot towards goal hit Vaughan and trickled in to Scott Davies' goal.

The visitors took the lead on 71 minutes when they broke through Rovers defence and the ball was passed to Kadell Daniel who rolled it home.

With a minute remaining James Norwood hit the post following a left wing corner, then Michael Higdon fired the rebound wide and Rovers could not find their way back into the game.

Tranmere slipped a spot to fifth but remain a point inside the play-off places.

Welling stayed in 23rd place but boost their hopes of National League survival as they cut the gap on 20th place to five points.

Brabin said: "It's disappointing. I thought we were poor today.

"But we're still in the pack and in a good position.

"I'm disappointed because we had a good opportunity and if we had played at the same tempo as we've done since Christmas, I thought the game was there for the taking.

"But we were sloppy and way off the standards we've set for ourselves."

Brabin added there is still a lot of football to be played before the end of the season and knows the performance level cannot be like that for the remaining fixtures.

He said: "There are still four games to go - we're still in the play-off positions so we're certainly not going to give up the fight.

"There's still a fair bit to play for and we need to step up from ouir performance today."

Next Saturday Rovers travel to Torquay, who are one place above the  relegation zone.
