Tranmere Rovers chairman Mark Palios is urging the people of Wirral to get behind the club’s promotion push in the final weeks of the season.

Rovers host Forest Green at Prenton Park this Saturday and go into the game lying just outside the play off places with Forest Green second in the table.

With precious points up for grabs Palios is hoping to see a big crowd cheer the team on to a home win.

He exclusively told the Globe: “Saturday’s match is the first of five massive home games remaining this season.

“There are eight matches left and we are well in contention for a Play Off place.

"It's an exciting, tense and challenging time of the season and the hard work is far from finished.

“We need the Wirral public behind us.

"We've had fantastic support at home and across the country this season and we're asking for the fans to give us one last push.

"Come to the final five home games and back the players as they give everything to get us in the top five and in the end of season play-offs.

“We know it's been tough at times this season, but there have been a lot of highs so far including the performance and 2-0 away win at the then runaway league leaders Forest Green.

"Hopefully there are more to come.

"We’ve got 24 points left to play for and 15 of them can be won at home.

"We’ve got the biggest average attendance in the division this season and we need to make it count. "

He added: "It’s a cliché but the fans really can be the twelfth man and make a difference on the pitch.

“The players, the staff and the supporters are all desperate to get this club back in the Football League, but we can only do it together.

"Wirral deserves league football.”
