Tranmere comfortably made it through to the semi-final of the Cheshire Senior Cup last night with a 5-0 victory over Cammell Laird 1907 at the North West Construction Stadium.

Goals from Cole Stockton (2), Jonny Margetts (2) and an own goal saw Rovers progress past their local neighbours.

It was a strong Tranmere line-up which included Liam Hogan, making his return to action following a three-month absence with a knee injury.

Rovers got the scoring underway five minutes in as Mitch Duggan did well on the right and his cross was met by the head of Stockton who nodded past the helpless goalkeeper.

It was 2-0 shortly after as the referee awarded a penalty for a foul just inside the area. Margetts stepped up and confidently sent the ball past the 'keeper.

Margetts rounded off the first half scoring on the half-hour mark as Stockton broke clear down the right before squaring the ball to his strike partner to tap home from close range.

Lairds began the second half well and had it not been for a superb goalline clearance by Jay Hunter, they could have pulled a goal back.

But it was Tranmere who were to kill the game off late on as Stockton struck his second of the night with a 20-yard effort into the top corner, before substitute Jake Hulley did really well on the right and his low driven cross was turned into his own net by a Cammell Laird defender.

Rovers go on to face Chester FC at home in the semi-final after they beat Warrington Town 4-0.

Tranmere: Turner, Sutton, Hunter, Duggan (Hulley), Hogan (Cringle), Riley, Mackreth, Askew, Stockton, Margetts, L. Davies (Ilesanmi). Subs: Rutter, Omotola.
