A DISAPPOINTING performance cost Tranmere Rovers the game against Woking last night.

Gary Brabin's squad were beaten 4-1 by their hosts at Kingfield Stadium.

Rovers had the best openings of the game with James Norwood having a couple of efforts wide before on 10 minutes when some lovely one-touch football saw Steven Jennings played in but his shot was expertly saved by Jake Cole in the Woking goal.

Woking opened the scoring on 27 minutes when a right wing cross by Bruno Andrade was headed home by Daniel Holman.

They doubled their lead on 40 minutes when Joseph Quigley's shot was parried by Scott Davies and John Goddard was the quickest to react and turn the ball home.

Cole made a couple of saves to deny Mangan and Liam Hogan before the half time whistle.

After a blocked Norwood shot, 10 minutes into the second half, Woking further increased their advantage as a slide rule pass found Holman who slid the ball past Davies.

Rovers made a couple of substitutions with Ben Tomlinson replacing Andy Mangan and Ritchie Sutton coming on for Adam Mekki in a reshuffle.

Norwood had a shot turned around the post by Cole as Tranmere looked to pull a goal back on 69 minutes.

Woking scored another as Rovers pushed forward, a long ball found Quigley who rounded Hogan and slid the ball into the net.

Taylor-Fletcher hit the crossbar with 10 minutes remaining with a vicious volley before volleys from Jay Harris and Taylor-Fletcher again went narrowly over the bar.

Tranmere did pull a goal back when Norwood burst through a number of challenges and curled home from 20 yards but it was a mere consolation.

Gary Brabin was disappointed with the performance of his side as they fell to a 4-1 defeat at Woking.

He said: "Firstly, I apologise to the fans. I just felt that every time they went forward, they scored.

"I thought we were our own problem, we didn't defend well as a team and weren't clinical enough in either box.

"James Norwood scored a cracker at the end but it seems he is the only one hitting the target at the moment.

"I put a lot of trust and faith in those players and I felt let down tonight.

"I've recruited the players and I spoke about characters and leaders but none of that was evident tonight."

Brabin said that he is expecting a positive reaction from his squad as they prepare for their next game at Boreham Wood on Saturday.

He added: "We need to switch on very quickly and start punching our weight because on that evidence, we'll be way short of our goals.

"There will be a few home truths and I expect a response. We expect more from them as a group of players. The only one who can hold his head up is James Norwood.

"We have to turn it around very quickly.

"The support from the club and the supporters has been fantastic, we need to start repaying that."
