A GOAL from a converted corner just before the half-time interval saw Tranmere Rovers suffer their second away league defeat of the season as they lost to Lincoln City.

Manager Gary Brabin made three changes to the side which started against Dover Athletic two weeks ago. Scott Davies returned in goal while there will also returns to the team for Jay Harris and Andy Mangan.

Lincoln made a swift start to the game and in the first 30 seconds, Liam Hearn had fired a shot into the side netting.

Tranmere's first attempt on goal came on 11 minutes when Gary Taylor-Fletcher intercepted the ball and saw Lincoln goalkeeper Paul Farman off his line and tried to lob him from 40 yards only for the ball to drift just wide of the target.

Taylor-Fletcher was involved again a couple of minutes later as he picked the ball up 25 yards from goal and hit a low shot which deflected narrowly wide.

On 23 minutes, a low cross by Ritchie Sutton found its way through to Andy Mangan in the six yard box but Farman denied the striker at his near post.

Lincoln took the lead a minute before the interval when a right-wing corner was met by the head of Luke Waterfall who sent a powerful header past Scott Davies.

Rovers started the second-half well and seconds in, Steven Jennings found James Norwood whose effort went wide before Ben Tomlinson's shot from 15 yards was saved by Farman.

Jack Muldoon twice came close for Rovers after the break, but Lincoln held on to take all three points and move up to seventh place while Tranmere dropped to 12th.

Brabin said it was frustrating that his side was creating chances but unable to convert them.

He said: "In the first half, we played some really good stuff attacking wise but we've switched off for one second and we seem to be punished every time we do that.

"In the first five minutes of the second half, we had some great chances but couldn't quite score and the longer the game went on, we got dragged back and stopped playing the way we want to play. It's been another frustrating afternoon.

"We created chances and went all out attack, but it's another afternoon where we've not scored so it's frustrating."

The manager said he is happy with the quality within his squad and says they will be working hard to improve on the finer details to get back to winning ways.

He added: "We're getting players back from injury so I'm excited about working with this squad going forward.

"With all the ability that we have, we just need to instill that winning mentality which we haven't quite got at the moment."
