TRANMERE Rovers returned from Rodney Parade a point better off after drawing 1-1 with Newport County last night.

Rory Donnelly put Micky Adams' squad up 1-0 up before half time but a late goal from Mark Byrne gave the hosts a share of the points.

A frustrated Adams said afterwards: "Obviously it's disappointing to concede so late but it's another point on the board.

"It's a hard place to come and we'll settle for that in the end.

"When you come so close at the end of the game and you don't deal with one long ball through the middle of the park it's disappointing. We'll learn from it.

"I thought in the first half we acquitted ourselves reasonably well and had the better chances. But we didn't get going in the second half if I'm being brutally honest.

"The game needed someone to take it by the scruff of the neck [in the first half]. Someone to play with more tempo to liven it up as it was lifeless.

"Then one bit of quick thinking from Danny Holmes puts Jennison Myrie-Williams through and Rory Donnelly is there to finish it off.

"At half time, while being reasonably pleased I thought we could get better.

"Unfortunately we didn't. We went deeper and deeper, sat back thinking we'd done enough and invited the pressure.

"The lads have worked hard and closed people down but in the second half they had the better of the game.

"We've seen it through and got a point on the board away from home and we'll have to take that.

"What we've all got to remember is it's a new side. We've got seven new signings and they've got to gel and learn about each other. I think our front three needed to work a little bit closer together and to get more support to Kay.

"Having said that, once they equalised we came to life again."

Rovers' League Two campaign continues on Saturday, February 14, against York City at Bootham Crescent (3pm kck-off).
