TRANMERE Rovers' boss Micky Adams says he was pleased with his side's performance in his first game as manager.

The new boss felt the only thing missing was a goal as Rovers drew 0-0 at home to Mansfield Town on Tuesday night.

He told Tranmere Player: "A goal would have been nice and would have capped off a great night because the effort and commitment was all there.

"We defended fantastically, and I'm not just talking about the goalkeeper and back four, everybody played their part in securing a point.

"It's a point, we'll take it. There were a lot of encouraging things, the one thing that was lacking was a goal.

"We've had a couple of training sessions, we even trained this morning which is unusual for the boys.

"I wanted to adopt a shape which I thought would be more forward thinking, and that's not decrying anything the previous manager has done.

"I wanted to play with two front men and get crosses into the box.

"There are things we can improve on for sure but there was a lot to be encouraged by.

"We looked threatening from set pieces and were unlucky on a couple of occasions.

"We've got to show people we care and that was the team talk, that we've got pride in ourselves and we've got pride in the shirt.

"The fans were terrific and hopefully they've gone home encouraged.

"I said to the players before the game, we're not going to get everything right, and some of the stuff I've said they'll forget.

"But it'll be repetition, repetition, repetition and eventually you'll understand the way I want to play and what I want to do."
