TRANMERE Rovers' immediate future was shrouded in mystery yesterday (Tuesday) as the club failed to respond to a speculative report that Wirral's Football League Division One club may be about to fall into the hands of foreign businessmen.
Officials at Prenton Park remained tight-lipped and refusing to make any comment on a report in a morning newsaper that a Portuguese investment company has had talks with the club and is "working on plans to take a financial stake, or even control, at Prenton Park".
The group behind the alleged move, Best Holdings SGPS, is believed to to be responsible for an aborted takeover attempt at another League One club, Swindon Town, last year.

Wirral businessman Peter Johnson - the controlling shareholder at Tranmere Rovers - was not available for comment yesterday.
Officials at Prenton Park, including chairman Lorraine Rogers and chief executive Mick Horton, were also unavailable.
Wirral Council, which in the 1980s played a major part in saving Tranmere Rovers from financial extinction and whose name appears as shirt sponsors, was equally in the dark.
Council leader Steve Foulkes said he was unaware of the situation, but added: "If this investment meant a more successful club, we would want to be involved. But we would want to sit down and talk to any new owners about the club's fantastic community involvement, including the education centre which is available to local schools."
