Rovers aim to end on a high
AIM: Rovers boss Ronnie Moore wants his team to finish on a high
AIM: Rovers boss Ronnie Moore wants his team to finish on a high

TRANMERE Rovers boss Ronnie Moore, bitterly disappointed that his team's Coca-Cola League One promotion challenge ran out of steam just at the wrong time, wants his players to finish the campaign on a high' . . .

Rovers, who have slipped to ninth in the table and have no chance of making the end-of-season play-offs by claiming a top six placing, on Saturday welcome to Prenton Park Southend United, a team that is sure of a play-off spot.

The game signals Rovers' final home appearance of the season before they wind their campaign up on Saturday week (May 3) at Northampton Town. But as far as Moore is concerned, it is business as usual . . .

"We've got two games and we want to obviously finish as high as we can in the league.

"Looking at the three games we've had this month, I think we've been the best side in each of them and lost - that's been frustrating.

"I think we've probably fallen 12 goals short of the results that would have taken us into the play-offs and that's been our biggest disappointment.

"This season, we've tried to be conservative and we've played 4-5-1 and 4-3-3, but we just haven't been able to find the goals and I think, basically, we need to score more from set plays."

Moore admits, though, that his eyes are firmly on next season - he is currently in talks with prospective players with plans to bolster his squad after what has been a disappointing last few weeks in which their play-off chance evaporated.

On Saturday, Tranmere suffered a 1-0 defeat at Huddersfield Town.

q The deadline for best offers and prices for Tranmere Rovers' season tickets has been extended until this Saturday's game against Southend.
