IF RONNIE Moore had one Christmas wish it would be that Tranmere Rovers will pick up four vital points needed to haul themselves into the Coca-Cola League One's top six.
And with three games between now and New Year's Day, the Prenton Park boss is confident that this dream could come true, but is also aware that hard work is needed.
On Saturday, Rovers drew 0-0 at third-from-bottom Port Vale's Vale Park ground in front of 3,604 spectators - a result that saw Rovers drop one place to 11th in the table with 28 points under their belts. They are four points adrift of sixth-placed Southend and nine points behind table-toppers Swansea City.
Moore said: "Consistency is what we need. At this level you do get inconsistency and we need to get back to basics. We're four points off possible promotion (via the end-of-season play-offs), so we need to work harder and we certainly will be over Christmas - we'll be training every day except Christmas Day."
It was confirmed this week that Blackburn Rovers' striker Andy Taylor has had his loan to Tranmere extended by one month.
This Saturday, Rovers travel to take on troubled Luton Town at Kenilworth Road (kick-off 3pm). Luton have dropped to bottom place in the table after being docked 10 points and going into receivership.
But Moore expects a "challenging game". He said: "We know Luton will be a tough game and if the lads don't put the work in it will be a tough 90 minutes.
"There's a nice atmosphere at the Luton ground, which is in the middle of a housing estate and you wouldn't even notice it was there."
Reflecting on Saturday's "disappointing" draw at Port Vale, Moore said: "I felt we underplayed ourselves. We need to improve our work rate and do our job, which means putting on our kits and running around when we get on the pitch."
Prenton Park hosts Rovers' remaining Christmas fixtures against second-placed Carlisle United on Boxing Day and Cheltenham Town the following Saturday (December 29).
Both games start at 3pm and Moore hopes Tranmere supporters will turn out in force. "They are both vital games and we really need the supporters to be our 12th man," he said.
