CALDY lost their final game of the season in National Three North League 11-21 at Hull Ionians to finish a very creditable fifth in the table.

It was a typical end-of-season affair. Caldy managed a try through Liam Devaney and a couple of penalties from Gareth Roberts, but it was far from their best performance.

Birkenhead Park ran out of steam at Darlington in North One against a side which had to win to ensure survival. It finished 21-8, with Park getting a Mark McKeon try and a Dave Hall penalty.

New Brighton went under 15-19 at home to Broughton Park in North Two West, despite dominating for long periods. Ryan Stead, Wayne Clayton and Paul Campbell managed unconverted tries.

Anselmians fell 10-49 at Widnes in South Lancashire and Cheshire One, but should just survive in the division. Scott Tunna crossed and Chris Wells added the goal and a penalty.

Hoylake whipped Ruskin Park 44-7. Steve Young touched down twice and hit a penalty and three conversions. There were also tries via Jack Collister, Al Robinson, Rob Kurton and Mike Young plus a penalty try.

Wirral put up a good showing at Wigan to prevail 19-13. Colin Davies and Craig Harvey crossed. There was also a penalty try plus two goals by Harvey.

Wallasey lost 22-26 at Oswestry in Division Two, with Oldershaw playing out a rare 0-0 draw against Ashton-on-Mersey.

Prenton took the Division Three derby at Parkonians 14-8, thanks to a Steve Evans try, two penalties by Gareth Knapman and a third through Andy Johnson. Andy Smith went in for Parks and Barry Owen landed a penalty.

Birkenhead Park play a re-arranged home game against Middlesborough on Saturday.

The final of the Wirral Floodlit Cup between Prenton and Wallasey will be played at New Brighton on Friday evening.

The Caldy Sevens and Colts Tens are on the weekend of May 3-4 and Cheshire meet Lancashire in the County Championship at New Brighton on May 10.
