Calday step out for Twickenham final

WIRRAL clubs are making the headquarters of rugby - Twickenham - their second home this season!

Birkenhead Park visit the famous stadium on Saturday week (April 12) to take on Cheshire rivals Chester in the countrywide EDF Energy Intermediate Cup Final.

And today (Wednesday), Calday Grange Grammar School run out on the hallowed turf to take on Langley Park School for Boys, of Beckenham, Kent, in the final of the Daily Mail Schools' Under-15 Vase competition (11am).

For one Calday player, Matthew Hanson, it will be only his 10th game of rugby ever.

The novice tight-head prop has played American football at Middle School in the USA, where his father was stationed, and has also played soccer at Calday Grange.

But until Paul Miller, the coach to Calday Grange Under-15s, suggested earlier this season that he might have the build to do well at rugby, he had never put a toe in the water. Now he is living the dream of countless thousands of players of all ages.

Calday beat Kings College School, Wimbledon, 19-12 in the semi final of the Daily Mail Vase to book their place at Twickenham.
