CALDY gained a hard-earned 23-18 success at West Park in National Three North League and they are now only six points off fourth place.
They had a good opening with the strong wind at their backs and built up a 14-0 advantage with tries from Ian Murray and Craig Ross, both converted by Gavin Roberts.
But then the St Helens outfit with a relegation battle on their hands clawed back the advantage and led 18-14 in the final quarter, thanks to two tries, a conversion and two penalties.

Richard McGlory made a solid debut at stand-off for Caldy, but not so good was a serious leg injury to prop Jim Renfrew.
Birkenhead Park produced an encouraging display at promotion-chasing Huddersfield in North One before losing 7-16. Penalties in the end won the day for the home side after each side gained one try.
But New Brighton's play-off hopes seem to be dashed
Christian Jones went over for Park and Tony Handley added the goal.
New Brighton's hopes of a play-off place in North Two West virtually disappeared as they fell 20-37 at home to leaders Chester.
Late cry-offs left them having to field a much changed side, but they gained three forward orientated tries via Kati Tuipulotu plus a penalty and a conversion by Stephen Dean, who moved to full-back as Ian Kennedy made a surprise come-back at stand-off.
Chester gained six tries in all plus two conversions and a penalty.
Wirral claimed the South Lancashire and Cheshire One derby at Anselmians 39-10. Stand-off Craig Harvey enjoyed the afternoon with four tries, three conversions and a penalty for a points haul of 29. Wallasey and Parkonians meet in the first of the Wirral Floodlit Cup semi-finals at New Brighton tonight (Wednesday) with Parks getting a 10 points start.
