Preview of new Wirral rugby season

THE new rugby union season is almost upon us.

League games are due to start on the first Saturday of September but before then ties in Cheshire club competitions are scheduled to be completed during the August Bank Holiday weekend.

In the Cheshire Cup quarter finals Caldy have home advantage against Sandbach and the match will be on Sunday.

Birkenhead Park face an uphill task away to Macclesfield. Vase quarter final ties show Anselmians at Northwich, Wirral v Bowdon, Hoylake v Sale and New Brighton at Wilmslow.

In the Bow, Oldershaw have home advantage against Marple.

Plate ties include two local derbies involving Port Sunlight v Ellesmere Port and Prenton v Wallasey.

Parkonians now renamed Oxton Parkonians were scheduled to entertain Capenhurst but the latter have conceded the game.
