Caldy book their place in play-offs

CALDY put on a big display to see off Luctonians 51-23 in National Two North League at Paton Field and book a promotion play-off in early May with still one league game outstanding.
The home side produced an eight try bonanza. Derek Salisbury and Ben Eaves each went in twice with singles via Gavin Roberts, Andy Soutar, John Broxson and Dom Kohler.
Roberts added three conversions and a penalty and Richard Vasey one goal.
Caldy in the play-off will be away to Old Albanians or more likely Richmond.
Birkenhead Park went to town against a depleted Morley in National Three North to post their biggest ever success in the division.
It finished 88-13 against spirited but vastly inferior opposition.
It was a carnival atmosphere as Park royally entertained past players who had attended a re-union.
Stuart Brown and Greg Hughes each enjoyed try hat-tricks.
Others to cross were Same Chidley, Mark McKeown (2), Rob Houlaston, Chris Saidi, Matt Ibbotson and Dave Hall who also kept the score board ticking with numerous successful kicks.
Morley who are relegated scored one try plus the conversion and two penalties.
Park finish fifth in the division.
Anselmians and Wirral battled to home victories to ensure safety in North One West League.
It finished 28-5 in favour of Anselmians against Northwich at Malone Field. Loa Topou crossed twice and Mahe Pepe and Nick Hearn once each. Simon Mason converted each time.
Wirral but up a big display to edge the verdict 31-29 at home to promotion chasing Widnes.
Rob Pearl (2), Craig Harvey and Dan Harvey breached the Wids defence and Craig Harvey added three conversions and a penalty.
New Brighton with the runners-up position in South Lancashire/Cheshire One secured enjoyed a 42-10 romp against Glossop at Hartsfield.
Hoylake put up a big show to edge home 39-36 at Tyldesley.
In Division Two Oldershaw finished 15-13 to the good at Sefton but relegated Ellesmere Port bowed out with a 19-62 reverse at Douglas, Isle of Man.
Caldy go to lowly Nuneaton this Saturday before knowing whom they will visit in the play-off against the National Two South runners-up.
New Brighton play off for promotion to North One West away to Kirby Lonsdale who finished runners-up in North Lancashire/Cumbria League despite losing last weekend at Heaton Moor.
All the other local clubs have completed their league engagements for the season.
