CHESHIRE kicked off at Bedford Blues RFC and within minutes captain JJ Dickinson provided them with a try which Ben Jones converted for 0-7.

On 16 minutes the advantage was doubled as Mike Craven went over for 0-14.

The East Midlands handling in the wet conditions was matched by their indiscipline as Cheshire showed resolute defence and no small amount of skill to keep their opponents at bay.

However, the home sides endeavour was eventually rewarded after 20 minutes with a try in the corner that was converted for 7-14.

Ben Jones showed excellent kicking form as he kicked two penalties from distance by the half hour mark for 7-20.

A fine try just before half time by Luke Titherington gave Cheshire a 7-27 advantage at the interval with the Midlands' experienced number eight sent to the sin bin.

Cheshire made the best of their numerical advantage at the start of the second period with a superb driving maul and a try from hooker Andy Baston.

Jones again obliged with the extras for 7-34.

The hosts made changes and secured two tries of ther own to halve the deficit at 17-34.

However, a try from backrower Harrison Crowe on 65 minutes put paid to any comeback at 17-41.
