A RE-ARRANGEMENT of the lower leagues in the RFU Northern Division has guaranteed a large number of Wirral derbies this season in the newly formed Merseyside West section.

One of them on Saturday saw a rejuvinated Wallasey account for Prenton 48-0.

Prenton never gave up the fight but Wallasey forward strength and pace behind was just too much for them.

Liam Wharton scored the first two tries for the Cross Lane side. Tom Cubbin and Conor Ligget also went in before half-time with Matt Climo converting once.

Cubbin was next to touch down four minutes after the break and Mike Murtagh and Milton Mupakasa breached the Prenton rearguard in the final quarter with extras from Climo and Murtagh.

Prenton should have had at least a consolation try but dropped the ball in the act of touching down between the posts.

A miserable afternoon for the visitors was compounded by the sending off of their number eight forward in added time for his second yellow card. Wallasey took advantage for a final touch down through sub Ben O'Donnell with Murtagh adding the extras.

That is five wins out of five for Wallasey in the Division and head coach Greg Hughes must be well pleased.

There is a large amount of experience in the squad and the players are enjoying themseves after a couple of seasons in the wilderness.

Prenton should not be too down hearted. They look capable of posting better results in the weeks ahead.

In the same league Port Sunlight crashed 3-93 at Ruskin Park and Oxton Parkonians 7-53 at Southport. The two winners here look too strong for this division.

Oldershaw chalked up their fourth win 28-0 at St Edwards but Ellesmere Port lost 22-34 against visiting Liverpool University.

Anselmians and Hoylake clashed at Malone Field in South Lancashire/Cheshire One and it was the home outfit who held the whip hand to triumph 35-15 and leave Hoylake bottom after six defeats on the bounce.

New Brighton sit third after a comfortable bonus point collecting 33-7 win away at Winnington Park.

Caldy continue to do well in National Two North. Their latest outing realised a 25-18 success at South Leicester.

They have lost only once and find themselves third in a tough league.

Wirral in National Three North were too strong for bottom of the table Burnage and won 36-6.

Birkenhead Park landed a penalty with the last kick to collect a bonus point at Lymm where it finished 25-19 to the home side.

Dave Hall was the successful kicker.

He also succeeded with two first-half penalties whilst Josh Smith and Pete Doolan touched down for the Upper Park outfit.

Caldy have Tynedale as visitors this Saturday. There are also home matches for Birkenhead Park against Burnage and Wirral against Hull.

Other fixtures on a full league Saturday include: Anselmians at Glossop, Hoylake v Wigan, New Brighton v Northwich, Wallasey at Liverpool University, Ellesmere Port at Mossley Hill, Oldershaw v Birchfield, Oxton Parkonians v St Edwards, Port Sunlight v Southport and Prenton v Ruskin Park.
