THIS comprehensive home victory by Wirral allows them to almost banish any thoughts of relegation as they now lie eighth in the league, some 19 points above third bottom, Morley, who would now need to win all their remaining matches.

Wirral had the game won and bonus point earned by half-time with tries from Ali Baker (2), Adam Sheldon and James Annetts, with the latter converting one.

At this stage Westoe were still in the game, having used their forwards to gain ground and score a try in the corner to leave the score at 22-5.

With the advantage of the wind in the second half and superior backs, Wirral ran in a further seven tries with Baker and Annetts completing their hat-tricks and other tries coming from Danny Harvey (2), Craig Harvey and forward Rob Pearl.

Annetts managed three further conversions to give him a total of 23 points in the game. Westoe for their part stuck to the gameplan and were rewarded with two further converted tries.

The excellent playing conditions at the Memorial Ground suited Wirral’s style of play as they were able to utilise the pace of the backs to their full potential and to be the highest scorers in the league this week.

Wirral's next match in a fortnight's time is away at neighbours, Waterloo in what should be an intriguing fixture given that Wirral have won seven of their last eight games and also feel they should have won the reverse fixture earlier in the year
