ALTHOUGH the visit of league leaders Sandal to the Memorial Ground ended with what appears to be a comprehensive win for the Yorkshire side, this was not the case.

From the kick off the Wirral forwards collected and drove the opposition forwards back some 30metres and this was to be repeated throughout the game.

For the first 20 minutes all the pressure came from Wirral assisted by a succession of penalties in their favour and a sin bin for a Sandal forward, but they could not force their way over the try line.

It was not until the 23rd minute when Sandal had good ball in the Wirral half that through their backs they created space to send winger, Simon Frewin in at the corner for a try.

Much as Wirral pressed and had a continuation of penalties in their favour, none within kickable positions, they could not break through to get that crucial score.

Half time 0-5.

In the second half, Sandal showed why they are the league leaders with a controlled display, which resulted in them scoring four further tries through prop, Luke Norbury (2), Simon Frewin again and James Briscoe, all of which were converted by Mark Pease.

Wirral for their part continued to apply pressure from time to time and were rewarded with a well worked try in the dying minutes of the game through Matt Loon.

Wirral were not disheartened by their display having played two of the top three sides in consecutive weeks and now face the other team vying for a promotion place next week when they visit Sale F C.
