WIRRAL errors allow Burnage the win Although Wirral lost this game, it was two interception tries which allowed Burnage to steal this game.

It was Wirral who started the stronger and scored first with a Dan Harvey penalty but were soon behind with the first of the interception tries by Adam Knight.

Wirral continued their dominance with a Mike Warren try, close to the posts and with a further penalty and conversion from Dan Harvey increased their lead to 5-13.

However a strong run and 60m dash by Burnage centre Steve Oldham and an exchange of penalties left the score 13-16 in Wirral’s favour.

For a period after half time, Burnage controlled the game and in a 20 minute spell scored three further tries, two from close range by Sam Lloyd and Ben Jones and the third was from 95 yards with Wirral attacking the Burnage line, when a potential try scoring opportunity was intercepted and James Hodder ran the length of the field to score under the posts.

This extended the Burnage lead to 32 -16.

For the remainder of the game, Wirral were camped in the Burnage half but despite repeated thrusts close to the whitewash could only score one further try through Ross Page.

Fearing a comeback from Wirral, Burnage put the game beyond doubt with a further penalty to extend their lead to 35-23.

This was a game that Wirral should have and could have won but too many self- imposed errors led to the ball being lost and giving the opposition try scoring opportunities.
