CALDY could not quite build on their recent victory over Chester in National Two North League as they went under 15-20 away to Harrogate.

Wirral collected their second point in National Three North via a 16-16 home draw against Huddersfield YM. Both sides were promoted last season.

A last-minute penalty saved the day for the visitors in a tight encounter. Wirral took the try count 2-1 thanks to touch downs via Ali Baker and James Annetts. Craig Harvey kicked the other home points via penalties.

The Yorkshire side landed three penalties in all plus the conversion after being awarded a second-half penalty try.

Birkenhead Park and New Brighton enjoyed narrow successes in North One West.

Park came away 27-22 to the good from Vale of Lune whilst New Brighton finished 14-12 against Penrith at Hartsfield.

Park opened the scoring with a Rob Doolan try at the end of the first quarter and a brace of penalties from Dave Hall made it 11-5 in their favour at the interval.

Hall added three further penalties later and there was also a touch down via Joe Spencer but Vale never gave up with a late try giving them a bonus point.

Brighton showed plenty of character and determination to see off their Cumbrian rivals.

Penrith led at the half way stage but two tries from Luke Thompson both converted by Joe Silcock took the Blues to 14-7.

Penrith could have shared the spoils after their second try but luckily for Brighton the conversion was missed.

Anselmians were edged out 18-22 at Sefton in South Lancashire/Cheshire One.

In Division Two Port Sunlight figured in an exciting 30-30 draw against visiting Moore whilst Prenton just got the better of Ashton on Mersey 18-14.

Oxton Parkonians accounted for a spirited Helsby 31-7 in Division Three.

There were two tries apiece for Andy Smith and Harry Eastwood. Martyn Sharkey also crossed and Ben Sadler landed a trio of conversions.

Oldershaw romped to a 45-7 success against Knutsford but Ellesmere Port lost against Ramsey (Isle of Man) 15-22.

Caldy have Luctonians as visitors this Saturday with Wirral on the road to Yorkshire to take on Morley.

There are home matches for Birkenhead Park v Broughton Park and New Brighton v Wigton.

Lower down the scale matches include Anselmians v West Park, Hoylake at Bowdon, Port Sunlight at Ashton on Mersey, Prenton against Vagabonds in the Isle of Man, Oxton Parkonians at Knutsford, Oldershaw at Linley and Wallasey at Liverpool University.
