TEN-man Motors grinded out maximum points at Rivacre Park thanks to goals from David Thompson and on-loan Dan Parkinson.
Altrincham started brightly and had the better of the opening exchanges with Luca Havern and James Lawrie going close in the opening ten minutes.
It was the home side however who took the lead on 24 minutes when James Ellison laid the ball off to Dan Parkinson on the right wing and he delivered a low cross to the back post which Thompson rifled home from eight yards out.
Motors grew in confidence after their opening goal and had the better of the remainder of the half with Burns finding the side netting with a 25-yarder on 39 minutes and Ellison heading over the cross bar just before the interval. The away side piled on the pressure in the second half but they were unable to find a way past a stubborn Motors defence.
Vauxhall Captain Tom Hannigan was sent off on 65 minutes for a second yellow card after hauling down Damian Reeves and Lawrie rattled the cross bar from the resulting free-kick.
On 84 minutes, Motors doubled their advantage when sub Tom Rutter made progress on the right wing then squared the ball for Parkinson who slid in and beat keeper Stuart Coburn from two yards out.
It was a nervy last few minutes as Reeves scrambled the ball home following a Lawrie corner to make it 2-1 on 90 minutes however Motors clung on to claim all three points.
Attendance: 300 Vauxhall: Jones, Noone, Dames, Hannigan, Nicholas, Burns (Egerton 88), Mahon, Fearnehough, Ellison (Rutter 82), Parkinson, Thompson Subs not used: Wright, Wainwright, Courtney.
