AFTER securing their passage to the Cheshire County FA Amateur Cup final the previous week, Vauxhall Motors recorded back-to-back victories and re-ignited their challenge for the Carlsberg West Cheshire League's Division One title.

In midweek, the Motormen eroded South Liverpool's lead at the top to seven points, after Alex Griffiths, Jason Carney and Jake Stinton netted in a 3-1 victory over Heswall and, on Saturday, Carney was again on target with the game's only goal against Richmond Raith Rovers as the deficit became four points.

After enjoying a fine opening start to their debut season in the top flight, the wheels appear to have come off at one time table toppers, Neston Nomads, who discovered the thin edge of the wedge and slumped to seventh place in the table.

Despite scoring through Lee Dunbar, Neston came unstuck against Chester Nomads in midweek and suffered a 4-1 defeat with Joel Haak (2), Charlie Mann and Jaz Ahbrook on target for the winners.

At the weekend, Neston were again on the receiving end, and crashed to their heaviest defeat of the season after they went down 8-1 at Redgate Rovers.

Ollie Gallagher bagged four for the hosts ably supported by three goal Kieran Turner.

A further effort from Sam Crane completed the total with Luke Blondel in reply for the visitors.

Saturday's Division Two action saw Ellesmere Port Town's bid for promotion stall again after they battled out a 1-1 stalemate with Ashville Res.

Jamie Easton gave the Port the lead on 12 minutes via a clever lob.

Following a 44th-minute corner, Ryan Smith bundled home an equaliser and although both sides had their moments after the break, the scoreline remained unaffected.

The result left the Port rueing one win from their last four games while the visitors extended their unbeaten sequence to eight.

At the other end of the table, long suffering Willaston at last had cause for celebration, after they humbled West Kirby Res 9-1 and consigned their opponents to bottom place in the table, highlighted by a Trevor Worsley hat trick.

Andrew Stanton and Brett Fitzsimmons bagged doubles with Nathan Rose and Shaun Lay also on the mark.

Will Ferron scored Kirby's consolation.

On Friday evening, Mossley Hill Ath Youth were elevated to second place in the Youth Division, Thomas Gledhill, Kaleb Jones and Alex McCamiskey obliging in the 3-0 eclipse of Maghull Youth.

Congratulations to Wirral SB, who progressed to their second final of the season after they put paid to Neston Nomads Res in the Development Trophy competition.

Efforts from Jack McGrotty and Ross Pringle sealed a 4-1 result.

Harry Taylor (2), Reece Howell-Pratt and an own goal helped Vauxhall Motors Youth to a 4-2 victory over Litherland Remyca Youth and earned their ticket to the Jimmy Brain Youth Plate final.

Harry Holmes and Matt Smith replied for Litherland.

In an earlier round, South Liverpool Youth made it to the last four, when Curtis Elias and Liam Murphy found the net in a hard fought 2-1 win against Bootle Youth who hit back through Aiden Noon.
