ALL eyes were on the CWFL Queensferry Sports Premier Division this weekend as the top two teams squared off against each other for the first time this season.

It was Sutton Athletic who dealt a blow to the title aspirations of Shaftesbury Youth after putting in a 4-2 winning performance.

Paul Butler (2), Pete Barnett and Liam Brennan were the marksmen for Sutton with Danny Whitehead hitting a brace for the Shafts.

The win means Sutton have closed the gap to only three points with a return game planned for the New Year.

Higher Bebington Kelma are also still in contention after beating Ellesmere Port FC 5-2 thanks to strikes from Simon Tierney, James Marsden, Ben Keirman (2) and Gregg Biggs who scored a spectacular overhead kick from 18 yards out.

Chris Georgeson and Mike Cooper replied for the Port.

Fourth-placed Christleton Celtic travelled the short distance to Kings School to play MBNA in what turned out to be a closely fought game.

Celtic were the winners by the odd goal in five thanks to goals from Michael Collins, Charlie Jones and an own goal.

Grant Tattum and Paul Jones were the banker's scorers.

Newton Athletic move level on points with Franklyn's after the two teams met with Newton coming away 3-2 victors.

Liam Bradley and super sub Lewis Davenport inflicted the damage on Franklyn's who replied via Colin Singleton and Steve Rothwell.

Helsby FC entertained Ellesmere Port Town A, gaining all three points after delivering a 4-0 win thanks to goals from Jay Bolton (2), Jack White and Josh Archer.

In the CWFL Olympic Trophies Division One Upton JFC beat FC UBER 6-4 with strikes coming from Danny Evans (3), Tom Berry, Tom Messham and Jamie Wilder.

Whilst in the CWFL Link Up Division Two leaders Ellesmere Port FC Reserves were pushed all the way by Crossway, edging a 4-3 win with goals from Josh Forster, Lawrence Edwards, Steve Duckers and a last gasp winner from Liam Smith.

Bryan Mills, Paul Seddon and Nathan Jones were marksmen for the plucky Crossway.

In the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division One Shotton Steel beat Blacon Youth Vets 3-1.

There was also cup action in the CWFL with the first round of the CWFL Cayzer Shield taking place.

Chester Nomads III booked a second round game with Ellesmere Port FC Reserves after beating Blacon Youth 2-0 with goals from Johnny Platten and Will Yardley.

Elton Athletic will face Beehive in round two after their 4-2 win against Princes Villa, Lee Fletcher, John Heaton (Pen), Jack Roberts and Arran Bravender their scorers.

Orange Athletic complete next weeks second round line up after seeing off Rockville 4-2, thanks to a brace a piece from Tom Wilkinson and Gary Owen.

They will now face Cestrian Alex.

Two CWFL teams had an away day in the Northern Cup Competition with varying fortunes.

FC Duddon travelled to Pilkington FC Res and were on the wrong side of a 4-2 scoreline.

George Wythe and Ryan Cartwright were the Duddon scorers who put up a good performance in the game.

Cestrian Alex meanwhile travelled the fair distance to Blackburn Utd Reserves.

It was a worthwhile journey though as they came away 5-0 victors after Adie Gough (2), Adam Crimes and Nial Peaker were all on the score sheet to ensure progress into round Two.

Capenhurst Villa FC Vets are through to the Quarter Finals of the CWFL Doug Johnson Vets Trophy after beating Upton JFC Vets 2-0, thanks to a brace from Tony Ashton.

In the CWFL Monday Night 11s Chester Division Balfour Beatty beat M&S Bank 4-0 with goals from Adam Hunter, Alex Major, Thomas Newbold and Chris Taylor while AFC Chester and Newton Athletic took a point each from their game, Sam Spridgeon and Alee Kassab the respective scorers.

In the CWFL Monday Night 11s Ellesmere Port Division Billbeckers, Andrew Tinker (2), Kyle Davies and Terry New, beat West Kirby, Jack Darlington, 4-1.

Ellis Williams and Jordan Howley scored 2 a piece for TRIC as they beat West Kirby Utd 4-2. Adam Jones was the Utd scorer.

In the CWFL Friday Night 11s M&S beat CBP 1-0, El Porto beat Waverton AFC 7-0 and Travs beat FC River 4-1.

Due to the continued growth and success of the CWFL Flexi 11s football the league will be introducing a new division at Woodchurch Leisure Centre in the coming weeks.
