DOUBLE celebrations this week as we actually got a game played and that saw FC Spartans terrorise Vauxhall Youth in the Cheshire FA Youth cup and end up as 3-1 winners after extra time, but not before fighting back from one nil down.

Dominic Atherton levelled matters in normal time and then two goals from Lewis Willingham in the extra period put Spartans through to the last eight of the competition they won last season.

Congratulations go to manager Rob Gateley and his squad for more success, as they also defeated Vauxhall in the Wirral FA Youth competition a couple of months ago and showed the strength of our youth section.

All teams are urged to keep a close check on the fixtures as they change weekly from the printed lists due to the poor weather and commitments of clubs in Cheshire and Wirral FA cup competitions.

Sad news befell the whole of amateur football on Sunday as the originator of Olympic FC – Dave Bale – passed away around noon at the age of 89.

A spokesman for the league said: "Dave was a true football fan and dedicated much of his life to providing umpteen lads the opportunity to play football for a club that he built into being one of the most respected teams on Wirral.

"His drive and enthusiasm was second to none and football will be a sadder place without him.

"The thoughts of everyone associated to this league go out to his family and close friends, but we also thank Dave for his excellent involvement and dedication to junior football, especially in the Wallasey area.

"Rest in peace Mr Dave Bale."
