IN the Carlsberg West Cheshire League’s Division One title chase, current leaders Vauxhall Motors took the honours in Saturday’s clash with nearest rivals Newton at Rivacre Park.

As a result of the 3-0 victory, which featured a goal apiece from Liam Driscoll, Hedi Bensadoun and Jon Atkinson, the Motormen increased their advantage at the top to five points, with two games in hand.

One-time leaders Cammell Laird 1907 Reserves fell further from grace after efforts from player-manager Mike McGraa (2) and Josh Grey consigned them to a 3-0 defeat at West Kirby & Wasps, while goals from Brad Williams and Graham Roderick failed to prevent Hale from losing 3-2 at home to Upton AA. Lee Guirado (2) and Chris Melia found the net for the seventh-placed Chester visitors.

Despite a fine double from Brad Smart, Maghull missed the chance to go second in the table after a determined Helsby salvaged a point thanks to replies from Dean Walker and Steven Woodward.

Another 2-2 stalemate saw efforts from Capenhurst Villa’s Jack Sheppard and Danny Higginson negated by strikes from Rainhill Town’s Dave Monteith and Mike Fargher.

Hale Reserves cut Richmond Raith Rovers’ lead at the top of Division Two to a single point after a Stuart Cornfoot effort and an own goal secured a 2-1 win at Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves, but a goal from West Kirby & Wasps Reserves’ James Stevenson counted for nothing after a rampant Southport Trinity emerged 6-1 victors. John Milner (3), Mark Brady, Adam Kelly and Martin Wilson obliged for the hosts.

Ashville were also in goal hungry mood, and afforded little mercy to South Liverpool Reserves. Sam Hunt (3), Darren Pritchard (2), Steve Kane, Squeak Clarkson and an own-goal secured the Wallasey outfit’s 8-1 triumph.

A 2-2 draw with Marshalls Reserves cost Ford Motors top spot in Division Three.

The fourth-placed challengers had two-goal Jon McEvoy on target before Matty Harrison and Matty McConikle hit back for the visitors.

Carl Brown claimed both goals for Cheshire Lines, but it was Rainhill Town Reserves who profited via a 3-2 scoreline. Mark Ellis, Mark Leather and Danny Garvey scored for the winners.

Goals from Matt Price, Rob Jones and Rob McDonals helped Redgate Rovers Reserves to a 3-2 win against Ellesmere Port Town, who answered through Max Jolly and Chris Brooks.

Youth Division leaders Mersey Royal Youth made it 10 wins from as many outings, after they won 5-0 against Litherland Remyca with efforts from Joe Wright, Danny Kiffin, Connor Hughes, Matty Wilson and Ryan Beigan.

Liverpool County FA Youth Cup second round action saw an Oscar Pugh double help Maghull Youth to a 2-1 win over Southport Trinity Youth.

In the Chester Challenge Cup second round, goals from Charlie Mann (3), Ryan Trousdale (2), Josh Carew, Jack Delgardo, Kai Stockton, Lewis Clarke and Liam Ashton inspired Chester Nomads Reserves to a 10-0 rout of Crossway.
