NO football action to report on this week due to continual rainfall that has blighted every pitch in the league which Wirral Council closed as early as Wednesday afternoon and proved to be the correct decision.

However, the free week does allow me to thank the local media for their coverage of the league with special thanks going to Corinthian in the Pink Echo, the Wirral Globe and Radio Merseyside who provide plenty of information regarding the league.

Thanks also go to our own website which continues to support the true grass roots football that is played on the Wirral and what that received very little support from the FA.

News from the divisions shows Great Float S&S as runaway leaders of the Premier division and sees them 16 points clear of Millhouse.

But they and other teams do have many games in hand to make up the deficit with Cetco Europe and Woodchurch United posing a threat in every fixture.

Division One sees the top four divided by four points with leaders Telegraph sending out a message in top spot ahead of Liver View, Wallasey Oval and Grange Hearts who will make this an enthralling race to the title in a very competitive division where even the mid-table teams could unsettle the balance.

A similar situation takes place in division Two were the top five are all capable of gaining promotion.

The leading three teams – Wallasey Mens, Lord Nelson and ASGA PV - look to have more fire power to see them over the line at the end of the campaign, but only time will tell.

A very competitive youth section of two divisions that now allows for under-19 players to compete sees AFC Liverpool heading the Dundee division as top scorers with a five-point lead over second-placed Heswall Youth who have a fantastic defensive record of only conceding four goals in their opening seven games.

New boys FC Spartans are also in the mix along with Glenavon Youth and Poulton Vics Youth who help to make this a unique division.

The Grove Youth division also boasts some excellent teams with unbeaten Allport Hawks soaring at the top ahead of new team Oldershaw Athletic and they have identical scoring records so far.

However, Manor Youth, AC Hoylake and Shore Villa will pose serious opposition for the leaders as they strive to stay in the title race.

The league are also well represented in all Wirral DFA cup competitions and also the Cheshire Youth Cup with the hope many reaching finals to complete a forceful season for the league and our best wishes go to every team for the remainder of the season.

Our thanks also go to the panel of referees who cover all the fixtures in what is a thankless task when you see and hear some of the comments directed at them during games.

But as we all know – not many of those dishing out the verbals could conduct these duties with the dignity that our officials do??
