CHESTER and Wirral Football League Cup competitions kicked off in style last weekend.

In the CWFL Roodee Web Designs Tom Gerraghty Memorial Trophy, Lee Constantine, Dominic Kennedy and Dara O’Callaghan scored for Deva Athletic in their 3-1 win over Lodge Bar.

Ryan Chatburn hit a consolation for MBNA as they went down 4-1 at home to Ashton.

Newton Athletic beat Hoole Youth 12-0 with goals from Dan Christian (4), Lewis Davenport (3), Nial Moorefield, Liam Bradley, Adam Pownall, Chris Noden and Steve Newton.

Blacon Thistle had Lee King McGee to thank for his 78th-minute winner at Higher Bebington Kelma — it finished 1-0. Kelma keeper Mike Walker saved a Warren Roberts penalty just before Blacon went ahead.

Birkenhead Town were also in cup action.

They entertained Whitby Athletic in the CWFL Dee 106.3 League Cup, winning 7-0 thanks to Andrew Bolton (3), Mike Parnell (2), Gino King and Ryan Atherton.

In the CWFL Goals Soccer Centre Chester Cayzer Shield, Woodchurch Athletic Reserves edged out New Ferry Rangers 3-2 thanks to Mark Roberts and Lee Dermody (2). Luke Cassidy and Reece Orton replied.

In league action, Lache closed the gap on Birkenhead and moved into second in the CWFL Queensferry Sports Premier Division.

They beat Christleton Celtic 5-0 with goals by Sam Buckley, Warren Kelly, Liam McGovern, Tommy Booth and Tom Bailey.

Ellesmere Port FC stay fourth after a 6-0 win over Uberlube, Nicky Monaghan (2), Peter Barnett, Cameron Forster (2) and an own goal.

Ellesmere Port Town Reserves moved off the bottom thanks to an Aaron Ceplis goal that gave them a 1-0 win against Kelsall.

In the CWFL Olympic Trophies Division One, Cestrian Alex had Nial Peaker and Mike Taylor to thank for a 2-0 win at home to Neston Town.

Joey Waters and Danny McGloughlan hit a brace apiece and Mikey Edwards hit a fifth for Lodge Bar Reserves in their 5-2 win against Neston Nomads Reserves.

In the CWFL Link Up Division Two, leaders Clubbies had to come back from two down to earn a point against second-placed Samba.

In an end-to-end game John Britton and Christian Grey put Samba into a 2-0 lead.

But second-half strikes by Matthew Roberts and James Simpson ensured that Clubbies stay top for the time being.

A Tom Barber cross was converted by Kingley Barlow as Crossway beat Orange Athletic 1-0.

Rob Greenaway netted for Elles-mere Port Town Reserves as they lost 4-1 to Eastham Athletic, while Elton Rigger let a 3-0 half-time lead slip and just managed to save a point in a 5-5 draw at Hoole Rangers.

Luke Martin, Wayne Clark and Sean Clare had put Elton into a 3-0 half-time lead but replies from Ash English (2), Johnny Clark (2) and Liam Gough gave the advantage to Hoole.

Billy Sammut then hit two late goals for Elton, the last in the dying seconds, to give them a point.

In the only game in the CWFL Tarvin Precision Veterans Division, Blacon Youth Vets went top after an 8-2 win at Tarvin Vets, Mark Worth (2), Scott Broadbent (2), Dave Cooke, Lee McElmeel, Peter Hughes and Jamie Barlow the Blacon scorers.
