COMEBACK kings Port Sunlight had double cause for celebration, after they came from behind in both games and followed up Friday's Wirral Sunday League Senior Cup success by winning the Division Two title on Sunday morning.

On both occasions, the opposition was provided by arch rivals, Wallasey Athletic who were left dumbfounded after seeing glory snatched from their grasp twice inside three days.

In the Senior Cup final, played at Cammell Laird, it was Wallasey who seized the initiative and took the lead during the first half, when Danny Price latched onto a through ball and expertly lobbed the 'keeper. Chances went begging after the break but it was Sunlight who redeemed their cause after Steve Devon fired home a blistering 20 yarder.

Ninety minutes elapsed and in the extra period it was Sunlight who were in raptures after prolific scorer, Marc Lawlor scored with a deft finish and made it 2-1.

Despite leading 2-0 in Sunday's Division Two title decider, Wallasey paid the price for a second time when Sunlight fought back to force a 2-2 stalemate and take the title.

Sunday evening's Pyke Cup final between Division One champions, Kent FC and Grace Arms was another hard luck story with Grace this time having silverware denied them.

With Kent pushing for an early breakthrough, it was Grace who capitalised after speed merchant, Steve Armitage, made the most of a defensive mix up and made it 1-0 on 12 minutes.

On 32 minutes, Kent levelled via a fine finish from Jonathan Parkinson but their joy was short lived after Mark Roberts profited from another defensive blunder and restored Grace's advantage a minute before the interval.

The underdogs were in sight of the cup but after a period of sustained pressure, Kent drew level when Colyfa Kamara scored with a bullet header with two minutes remaining.

With the scoreline unaffected after extra-time, the contest was decided on penalties, and it was then that the real hero emerged.

Kent missed with their first two attempts but were lifted when goalkeeper, Phil Thompson saved three spot kicks in succession and after the second series of penalties, it was Kent who held their nerve and completed a league and cup double.

Sunday's remaining league fixtures saw Bronze finish off with a 4-1 triumph over MSC Eastham, while Victoria Colts Seniors posted a 3-2 result over Halfway House.

The curtain comes down on another Wirral Sunday League season this Thursday, May 7, with the Challenge Cup final, 7pm at Cammell Laird, as Kent FC look to avenge their Premier Cup final defeat at the hands of Neston Nomads.

The Wirral Sunday League has a limited number of vacancies for clubs wishing to join for season 2015/16. Application forms can be obtained from the League Secretary Dave Lea, on 0151-608 4332.
