THE final of the Division One Cup took place at Ashville FC last Wednesday between AM Plant Hire and Clarence FC, with the latter taking the trophy with the only goal of the game.

A very even first half looked to be goalless until the 44th minute when Robbie Allen latched onto a flick on to net a good goal past the stranded keeper.

The second period was a more open affair with the Diggers searching for an equaliser, as Tom Reilly put in a man of the match performance.

But their best efforts were not enough to beat the Clarence keeper, Paul Roberts who was their man of the match, as they clung on for a dramatic 1-0 victory.

The battle to take the division One title is going to the wire following Ship Wallasey sailing to victory over Upton FC in an 8-1 win that saw Jon Pomphrett net a hat-trick, Kyle Birch, Andrew Spearing and Greg Nixon notching singles and the bonus of two own goals to complete the scoring to put them third.

They now face second placed FC Victoria in the final fixture to see who will be champions.

Division Two action saw Grange Hearts secure runners-up spot due to their 3-1 success over Vineyard, as Dave Walmsley, Jamie Conway and an own goal secured the points.

A Sean Williams double was enough for Eastham Rangers to beat Poulton Vics 2-1, who replied through Aaron Cummins.

Nelson Grove tasted victory when beating Wallasey Town 3-2, with goals from Zac Taylor, Dan Murphy and Chris Cookson, with Tom Freeman and Dave Sullivan bagging the responses.

A brace of goals from Kyle Leighton-Davies allied to singles from Derek Nash and Danny Payne saw Olympic Rangers run out 4-1 winners over Sandbrook FC to keep them in mid-table.

Ashville Youth recorded their best win of the campaign when easing home 8-2 versus Higher Beb JFC in the Dundee Youth division as Dan Curran-3, Liam Siddorn-2, Kieran Hamm-2 and Calum Hughes found the net in style.

Victoria Colts maintained their hopes of finishing in the top two after beating Upton Town 3-0, thanks to a Peter Monroe brace and a single from Sam Waterson, but everything depends on the final fixtures and results of the season.

The only game in the Grove Youth division resulted in a hard earned 2-1 success for Gayton JFC over Glenavon, who have completed their fixtures.

On target for Gayton was Steve Halfhead with a fine double that keeps alive their hopes of finishing in the top two places, but Shaftesbury Youth have secured the title in a very well contested division.

All teams MUST be advised that scheduled fixtures may still be altered to accommodate outstanding fixtures that effect league places and cup games, even if open dates have already been advertised.
