MICKY Adams is demanding his Tranmere Rovers' squad adopts a 'never say die' attitude as their battle against relegation continues.

They remain in the League Two relegation zone after a goal from Cameron McGeehan gave Luton Town a fortuitous victory at Prenton Park on Easter Monday.

Their League Two campaign continues on Saturday, against Southend United at Roots Hall on Saturday.

During a press conference at Prenton Park this afternoon Adams said he expected a tough game, but added that belief in themselves and a 'never say die' attitude was needed if his squad is to stand any chance of a win.

It is a philosophy required for the season's final five games if Rovers are to climb out of the drop zone.

Adams said: "I've been in the management game for nearly 800 games and I've enjoyed good times at the top of the table and I've experienced difficult times as well.

"I look back on my experience, not just as a manager but as a player as well.

"I remember when I was a player at Coventry City and we had to win the last three games to stay in the old First Division.

"We went away to Luton and won 1-0, Stoke City away and won 1-0 and beat the champions of the time Everton 4-1 at Highfield Road.

"So I understand what the players are going through and what we had were characters and a bit of belief and a never say die attitude and we need that now.

"I've never experienced such bad luck as we've had this season."

On his squad's performances this season, he continued: "I think some of our better performances have been away from home with the way we've gone forward and played without fear.

"Away from home we've been creating chances whereas at home we've struggled to create chances. Going away from home will maybe help us a little bit.

"Having said that, we go to Southend who are on a good run of form at this moment in time, they're fighting for promotion and they will expect to beat us."
