TRANMERE Rovers' coach wants a repeat of the performance that conquered table-toppers Shrewsbury Town when they take on Portsmouth tonight.

The match, at Fratton Park will be the 34th time Tranmere have played Pompey, with Rovers holding a 14 wins to 12 in past meetings.

Rovers are 20th on the League Two table with 34 points from 31 games. They beat Shrewsbury 2-1 at Prenton Park on Saturday.

Victory tonight could lift Micky Adams' side as high as 17th.

Portsmouth are 14th in the division with 40 points. At Fratton Park they have won eight, drawn three and lost four.

Looking ahead to tonight's game, Rovers' coach Alan Rogers said during a press conference at Prenton Park: "It's a league game and we're going there to win.

"It's our game in hand and we're going there in a very positive frame of mind.

"Portsmouth are a decent side. They were down towards the bottom end of the table and have had a decent run.

"The lads are confident after Saturday and are going to try and get a result.

"It's going to be a full house and we've got to nullify the opposition and let our players get out there and win the game."

Rogers was full of praise for Rory Donnelly's performance agianst the Shrews: "He's a good player. He works hard in training and is getting the rewards with his goals.

"He has no fear; he's quick and gets right into the game.

"The lads knew their game had dropped agaisnt York last week and put that right on Saturday.

"We got the right reaction from the players, the fans could see that.

"There were a lot of questions asked of the players after the York game and they have been answered.

"We will take that on board to Portsmouth."

Michael Ihiekwe is back in the Tranmere squad for Tuesday night's game. The defender has been out of action since the Hartlepool game with an ankle problem but returned to training last week.

Adam Dugdale and Kayode Odejayi picked up knocks in the 2-1 win over Shrewsbury at the weekend and will have their fitness assessed ahead of the game.
